Join us for our primary learning topic, "Potential Barriers to Economic Mobility – Child Care Costs and Benefits Cliffs" a deep dive into recent research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, “Too Costly to Work? The Childcare Burden on Household Earnings” Senior author, Brittany Birken, Community and Economic Development Director and Principal Adviser, will discuss the research, the authors’ approach, results and provide an analysis of the findings. Dr. Birken has presented previously to the Florida Education Funders on the Benefits Cliff. This research is an extension of and builds upon that work.
We will also be providing a preview of education legislation for the 2026 legislative session from RSA Consulting.

Brittany Birken
Brittany Birken serves as a director and principal adviser for Community and Economic Development and co-leads the Atlanta Fed’s Center for Workforce and Economic Opportunity. In this role, Birken specializes in the identification of barriers and solutions to career advancement for low-income working families. Prior to joining the Atlanta Fed, she was a faculty member at the University of Florida’s College of Education. She has also served as the director of Florida’s Office of Early Learning and as chief executive of the Florida Children’s Council, the umbrella organization for children’s services councils.
