Community foundations of all sizes face some unique challenges when it comes to identifying, developing and presenting a brand that is true to the foundation's identity and will help advance the organization's mission and goals. And brand work itself can be much more difficult and complicated than it may appear at first glance. Brand expert Patricia Courtois will help set the stage for our two days of learning and sharing by laying some groundwork of key brand concepts and processes, and help each participant start thinking about the strengths and weaknesses of their foundation's own brand.

In November 2010, the 43-year-old Dade Community Foundation unveiled a new brand that included a new name - The Miami Foundation - a new vision and a new logo and look. Back then, Javier Alberto Soto, President & CEO of The Miami Foundation, noted the following about the foundation's bold change: "The Miami brand is very powerful and well known. We want to capitalize on the name to achieve some very ambitious goals we've outlined for us and our community." A year and a half later, Soto and Nancy Jones will share their experience in creating a new brand and give an update on how it's been helping them achieve their goals.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation
Greg Luberecki, Director of Marketing and Communications, Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

At the end of 2010, Gulf Coast Community Foundation refreshed its brand identity by unveiling a new, modern logo and a completely redesigned Web site. At that time, President/CEO Teri Hansen noted that the refreshed brand reflected the "proactive nature" of the foundation and its donors. "It will improve the way we tell people about the good work that we have always been doing in the community, and how they can be a part of it," she said. In this session we'll learn more about the process that the foundation went through to refresh its brand, the strategic thinking behind the effort, and the results they've seen in using the refreshed brand to support their work.
